| Moving Timeline Check List|
One Month Before Moving
q Arrange for your personal belongings and your furniture to be moved by either a rental truck or hiring a moving company.
q Start to accumulate moving supplies such as tape, boxes, and rope.
q Plan the route you plan on driving to your new home.
q Save all of your receipts that have moving related expenses on them, because some moving expenses are tax deductible. Examples include meals, lodging, and gasoline.
q Have a plan developed for packing, such as packing the things you use the most last.
q Fill out the Change of Address form at the Post Office to notify them of your move.
q Notify your friends, family, and work places of your move.
q Notify federal and state taxing authorities or any other governmental agency needed of your move.
Two Weeks Before Move
q Notify cable, phone, gas, water, and electric companies of your move, and arrange for services at new address.
q Have your car serviced to prepare for the drive to your new home
q Recruit people to help you on moving day.
q If you have pets, you may want to arrange with someone to take care of them during the move.
q Confirm the arrangements made with the moving company or truck rental company.
q Notify your bank if you are leaving the city.
One Day Before Move
q Be sure not to pack your moving materials!
q Pick up the rental truck
q Fill car with gas and check the oil and tires
q Get a good night’s rest!
